TALISKER 18 YEAR OLD

There is something about this time of year that makes me enjoy a whisky more than during the warmer seasons. Maybe because our golden drink makes you feel just a little bit warmer inside during the cold days. One of these whisky's I always enjoy during these times is the Talisker 18. With the fierce sea in the back of my mind, this is a perfect whisky to pour during cold winters. The packaging of this bottle is very nicely detailed and as we have come to expect from Talisker, with a beautiful picture of the Isle of Skye and gold details in the shape of the Isle. This distillery produces a whole range of many different whiskies from a wide range of age groups. Therefore, Talisker is not always the cheapest when it comes to a fine bottle. However, the Talisker 18 falls into a nice price range. In addition, the Talisker 18 is highly praised by enthusiasts. And it certainly deserves to be. Talisker 18 is full and robust whisky with a delicious smoky and peppery taste, but still with a slightly sweet aftertaste that still gives a kick. You could almost say that the balance is perfect. However, if you are a novice whisky drinker, I would still refer you to other lighter whiskies. And after some experience, you will certainly appreciate this Talisker 18 more for what it is. A ferocious wave that crashes in the back of your throat in an experience of flavours.

Nose

The nose that meets you when you open the bottle does not reveal the explosion of flavours that this whisky brings. A sweet smell of toffee enters and is quickly taken over by the rich smoky note with a light bite of salt sea water.

Many layers travel over your tongue. What begins with the sweetness of orange is soon taken over by the deep smoky, salty flavour we have come to expect from Talisker.

Verdict

The Talisker 18 is one of my favourite whisky's at the moment. I started my journey years ago and at the time kept some distance from smoky whiskies. However, my tastes have developed so much that I generally prefer the smoky whisky's. Until now, Talisker 18 has stood out for me. A fantastic whisky for every whisky enthusiast. Talisker 18 gets this year's "Favorite 2021" award from whiskymen.nl. Talisker 18 is a top whisky with a top character.

DISTILLERY

The Talisker distillery was founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers. Located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, it is the oldest distillery on the Isle. Situated on the shores of Loch Harport, the distillery defies the most rugged natural conditions that the countryside has to offer. From rugged coastlines and wild storms to warm sun-drenched days.
