Sometimes you have a day when you don't plan to buy a whisky and yet after a visit to your local whisky specialist you come home with a new whisky. In this case it was the GlenDronach Traditionally Peated. I wanted to add another peated whisky to my collection and after a small personal tasting I decided to go for the GlenDronach Traditionally Peated. Besides the fact that the taste surprised me, I also found the appearance of the complete package very attractive. With beautiful golden accents and a dark brown leather look, the GlenDronach Traditionally Peated has a nice robust feel. What surprised me most was the taste of this peated whisky. Very sweet and full of various fruit flavours, yet with a nice strong smoke flavour. This is emphasized by the fact that the whisky is only peated in the traditional way of two centuries ago. At the end of the process instead of the beginning. The whole is perfectly rounded off with the sweet flavours of orange, honey and cloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aroma comes mainly in the form of dark honey with a hint of toffee here and there. The peat smell in the nose is really very light for this peated whisky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Taste<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Even though you won't be smelling it when you have the whisky in your glass. The taste is all the stronger. Robustly smoky with a roasted orange flavour and a clove finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Verdict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is a very fine peated whisky with a robust flavour profile. Nice and fruity, but also deeply smoky. Price-quality wise, it is a real winner. If you are looking for a smoky whisky with a different flavour profile than your average peated whisky, GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is a great bottle to add to your collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      DISTILLERY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The GlenDronach distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. For almost 200 years they have been distilling their liquor in the east of Scotland. Nestled in the Forgue Valley. Established in 1826, GlenDronach upholds a traditional approach to distilling. On the grounds of the distillery there are still many old houses of the employees and their families who all used to live at the distillery. From the managers to the brewers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
