For this tasting, we are going to do things a little differently. We are going down under to the Australian distillery Starward. From the small segment of this distillery, I tried the Starward Nova. And how pleasantly surprised I was by this bottle. When you see the bottle, you would not think that this is a single malt. The bottle is modern with as expected a star scene. Beautifully styled and very striking. But not only the bottle is striking. The Starward Nova has its own character. Matured in Australian red wine barrels, this bottle is a fully Australian product. The character of the whisky is sweet and slightly spicy. The wine taste is good to taste and does the Starward Nova very well. At Whiskymen, we like to try as many types of whiskies as possible and the Starward Nova is really one of the most surprising yet of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Starward Nova has a pleasant smell with hints of blackcurrant, caramel and a hint of a sweet wine aroma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Taste<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This whisky is typical. It tastses the same as it's nose does. The taste of blackcurrant, caramel and the grape flavour of the wine is strongly present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Verdict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      From down under comes the Starward Nova and it arrives well. Is it a very special whisky? No, not directly, but when you consider that it is a purely Australian product, it makes it just that little bit more special. A pleasant surprise from an unexpected corner of the world. A wonderful whisky to drink on a cosy evening with your friends and to enjoy it together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      DISTILLERY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The Starward distillery is located in Australia's capital city of Melborne. This young distillery was only founded in 2007 to provide the local cuisine with an authentic whisky to serve. Pure or as a cocktail. The approach to the whisky process is completely different from what you are used to from traditional Scottish distilleries. Starward's whiskies are only kept in cask for 3 years, but this makes them even more unique than they already are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
